THEN LET THE MIND MEANDERING BEGIN.

So, just in case you’ve missed the hints, there’s going to be massive spoilers in this post. If you haven’t watched The Walking Dead’s series seven premiere then look away from your screen now and step away from your computer. If you’ve ignored all previous warnings, I can no longer be held responsible for massively spoilering your face.

Let us proceed in an appropriately shambling manner.

I’d been waiting for this for a loooonnnnngg time. Maybe too long – I’m not good with waiting, or suspense, or cliff hangers.

Full of impatience, I am.

And also, mixed in my opinions on what I thought about the episode.

So, what did you think?

The season premiere certainly had significant death count. Admittedly, death count we were expecting. So now we’re missing a couple of our favourite characters. Well, at least one of our favourite characters. And it was gory, had its fair share of look away from the screen moments, fill your heart with aches moments, feel a bit sick moments.

So, what did I think?

Personally, I was never that taken with Abraham’s character, but he was enjoyable enough. Glenn, though, will be sadly missed. Having said that, I’d already put myself through the grieving process with him when they decided to do the whole FAKE DEATH FALLING OFF A BIN (WITH ZOMBIES) trick. So, yeah, I was sad, but with a bit of been-there-done-that-got-the-t-shirt feeling to take the edge off.

And bloody hellfire it was a grim episode – breaking skulls, popping eyeballs, big emotional snot balls. And, given that it was supposed to be grim, it certainly did that well.

So, it did what it said on the tin – killed off some characters, showed us the bleakness of life in the zombie lands.

And it was good at that.

But, there’s just a little bit inside of me that’s glad that episode is over and wonders if we can move on quickly so everyone can do something else. Maybe, something a bit different. Seriously, I’m not sure what’s lined up but if it involves making some dodgy decisions, finding a safe place, dicking up a safe place, ending up on the road again, I’m going to struggle to stay awake for the whole series.

In fact, my favourite moment in this episode was when there was a fleeting second of believing that Negan had actually smashed his way through the entire core cast. Clear the way for new characters, hit the big refresh button and see what happens.

I’m missing the kind of episodes where Carol takes it on herself to kill children (probably by far and away the best episode in the entire series) – the Grove episode for me, really, is much bleaker and more touching and thoughtful than this season’s premiere.

And, if I was going to go really far down the line, grim as it was, and good as it was at being grim, I’m dangerously close to starting to find it a bit dull.

But not quite yet.

It is, after all, zombies.

And I like zombies.

So, I liked it, but I kind of want something a bit… well… more.

And, hopefully, there’s legs in it yet.

I await the surprises.
