Reading, watching, listening

Last time in Sharing is Good, I talked about the joys of Chuck Wendig, The Bridge and the brilliant David Bowie. I also got to hear a bit about The Man in the High Castle, a tip from Brum Radio Book Show over on Twitter, a series that’s going straight on my watch list. And in this latest instalment of reading, watching, listening, here’s the creative crack that’s been going down. Reading: Did I mention that I pretty much devoured The Death House by Sarah Pinborough? It made me cry. And it wasn’t pretty crying. It was all red eyes…

Sharing is good

This year, I’ve signed up to the Goodreads reading challenge. That is to say, I’ve marked down in digital pixels a number of books that I’m hoping to read during the course of the year. I’ve signed up to read 25 books. I’ve not said what books. I’ve not said how long the books should be. I’ve not picked genre, author or title. Just a pledge to read that many books. And I hope to read more than that. Not because I want to ‘win’ the challenge, but because reading is goddamn cool. Because it’s not about quality, but about…

It’s 2016 and let’s not play Monopoly

First up – it’s 2016 (and a great, shining ball of Happy New Year-ness to you fine folks). I hope it’s treating you well and you’re holding the January blues at bay. Second up – it’s 2016 and hover boards are a thing, but they don’t actually hover and apparently occasionally blow up (so I’ve heard). Third up – it’s 2016 and there’s a new Star Wars film out (which, by the way, is a whole lot of fun if you’ve not had the chance to see it yet – new faces, old faces, and some excellent one-liners). And not…

The dawning realisation that Nanowrimo is about to start

Today I’ve played the harmonica.   I’ve annoyed the cat. I’ve drunk copious amounts of coffee. I’ve cleaned the kitchen. I’ve put the bins out. I’ve even watched an episode of the Apprentice. And now I can’t ignore the fact that Nanowrimo starts tomorrow. Or at midnight tonight if we’re being precise. And this year I’m going to attempt to join in. Which means, all being well, that November is going to be taken up with a WHOLE LOT OF WORD SPLURGING. And by WHOLE LOT OF WORDS I’m talking about 50,000 in one month. And not just any month,…

Where is all the writerly wisdom?

Well, Easter’s been a darn fine time. There’s been chocolate, there’s been tea cakes, and the cat has been in a spectacularly epic bad mood which culminated in savaging the mother in law (but at least it didn’t require a trip to the Emergency Room… let’s not talk about the last time that happened…) And, what’s more, there’s been extra days off from the daily grind, like the weekend just decided that enough was finally enough and went on a bender with Friday and Monday, only to be discovered a few days later handcuffed to a lamppost and talking to…
