Books, the year’s books, and Christmas books

Say what? It’s December? Really? Very funny. *checks calendar* *screams* You mean it’s 2016? Anyway, so, I don’t have an inkling as to where this year bloody went to. I think I was busy having a coffee and a cigarette on the doorstep and 2016 just snuck around the back. Which means: It’s nearly time for Christmas Bloody hell how did I eat that much? It’s a bit goddamn chilly New year’s eve parties will get people a bit overexcited, how about we stay in tonight It’s nearly time for the best reads of the year! Huzzah. Insert party poppers…

On writing about bloody good books

Let’s talk about the life blood of authors. That’s reviews, right? I mean, after wine, cheesy pasta, and a good set of pyjamas. It’s reviews. Still, that makes them damn important. …Mmm, cheesy pasta… Because there’s so many books you could pick up and read, it all starts to boil down to how you pick your next word-candy. There’s only so many precious reading hours in the day, so you want to choose wisely. Personally, I’ll go with: authors I’ve read before authors I know personally and already respect their work authors I’ve heard about (generally from other authors I…

The TBR Files

I’m just gonna come right out and say it – I’ve got a problem. It’s a good problem, but I’m midway through my current read and I’m already wondering what’s going to be up next. The thing is, my to-be-read pile is out of control. I mean, I’m not the fastest reader in the world, and there’s so many books I’m excited about and I’m gonna get to them all but damn why can’t I have another set of eyes to work with?

Reading through 2015 – my favourite books of the year

Have a good Christmas? Yes? No? Sort of, but shouldn’t have had so much sherry that you kissed your Grandma with a bit too much tongue? Great!

Now give your Grandma her dentures back because it’s time for the obligatory BEST-OF post, right? While you’re recovering from an overdose of turkey and alcohol-fuelled Christmas pudding, here’s my top five favourite reads of 2015. Read them now, seriously. Don’t make me threaten you with all the left over toffee pennies.

World Book Day – Gimme your kids’ books

Ring out the bells and put out the cake, it’s only WORLD BOOK DAY today! *Sirens wail* *Ticker tape floods the streets* *Cat looks up, squints eyes slightly at commotion… returns to ignoring world… because… well… cats* And, madams and sirs, we should make this a fine party because 1. Books are cool 2. Books are god darnnit damnably cool 3. Dragons* *known to appear in books, and are cool. And can I just say, there have been a lot of fine efforts in the fancy dress department going on – a few Where’s Wally hats and the odd Harry…

Shhh… It’s only more free shit

*Shhhh* Don’t you be a-telling nobody, now. This is just between you and me, right? I mean, you and me, like, you and me and the rest of the entire internet, right? The internet is ok. The internet knows how to keep a secret. Just ask Twitter. But other than that, we’re all hush-hush, right? Pinky finger… PINKY FINGER! Good. Because I’ve got to tell you, I’ve only gone and put more free shit up for you to read. Remember Me first appeared in The Alarmist Magazine – a beautifully stunning concoction of the weird and the dark. You should…
