So after the excitement of Halloween and all of the spookiness that goes with it, the year is crashing through the days that bring us closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. Decorations are going up, parties and gatherings are being planned, gifts are being bought or made.
And then, of course, there is all the food. My inbox is awash with recipe ideas and my Instagram feed filled with all of the meals I might want to make. And with the weather turning to storms and ice I find myself cooking up big batches of soups and beans and chillies to huddle over on the cold, dark nights.
So in the spirit of, well, me feeling hungry, this instalment of the flash fiction prompt is all about food. Or more precisely, about what’s cooking. Spin up a story or scene about what’s on the chopping board, bubbling in the stockpot, spinning in the microwave. What is it? Who’s making it? Who’s going to be eating it? Is it, in fact, tasty… or is it, perhaps, something more dubious than you might find in the pages of a best-selling recipe book?
Aim for up to 500 words, and if you want a deadline to keep you on point let’s give it until Sunday 1st December for you to share a link to your story in the comments here and see what everyone else came up with.
Enjoy!
