Happy New Year

The year has once again rolled round, and heralds another few months of me being incapable of writing the date correctly. I had, of course, only just gotten used to writing 2024. So I’m dropping by here to wish you all a wonderful New Year.

I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions on the whole, but I do want to focus on a few things this year. Largely around carving out time. Last year was not the best year by any stretch, Mom died which I might be able to write about at some point, and this left me feeling somewhat detached, floating—a passenger with no ground beneath them. So this year I want to make sure I work on roots, on mental health, and on putting more time into the things that help me thrive. That means more time for writing and making art. More time working with the pup and enjoying longer walks. And trying to be more connected with the land, appreciating the turning of the seasons and the connection we have with the earth and the skies.

I’m hoping to take more notice, and to note more things—the little things that bring joy and satisfaction, as well as the changing seasons. I’ve always enjoyed harvest festival, Halloween, and the changes that come as the earth turns but I’ve never really marked them. This year I want to take notice of the passing of the seasons and the changes in the world, to mark them and be conscious of them properly. Nothing fancy; maybe a meal, maybe a good deed, a gathering of friends and family, maybe a story.

I’m also hoping to bring meditation into my routine, dedicating a space to work on mental wellbeing. There’s so many resources out there I’m not sure where to start, but start somewhere I will.

And of course, I also want to make sure I take more time for creative writing and reading. Start new things, and perhaps finish some of those many WIPs that are lurking. I’ll carry on posting up flash fiction prompts so anyone who wants a little bit of inspiration can get involved with those.

Mostly, I want to treasure the good things.

So I heartily want to wish you all the most wonderful of New Years, and hope that 2025 treats you well and you and yours are blessed with good health and happiness. Here’s to a good one 🖤
