Hello, June. When did you get here?

I’m still in the year 2017, and I’m not entirely sure how I even managed to get there. There’s been a lot going on in the last year or so – new education, new job, new fringe (short-lived) – and it’s been a bit of a blur.

And, apparently, I’ve just finished my first academic year on the MSc Psychology course. Which means, assuming I get away without any retakes rearing their ugly heads (many fingers crossed on that point), I’m half way through my course and have a summer wending its way forwards where I won’t be coming home from work and diving straight into assignments. I won’t be spending my lunch breaks deciphering academic papers. I won’t be trying to learn so much that I feel like I know nothing. [*Jon Snow*]

Which is a lovely, strange feeling.

So what might be on this summer’s cards?

There’s a few things that I’ll be trying to do. Of course, I’ll be trying to work out what I’ll be doing for my dissertation next year, so there will still be plenty of bizarre and interesting case studies on the reading list. But I’m also planning to find time to loosen up the old writing gears and revisit some fiction-based wordage. It seems an age since I last wrote fiction, so it’s exciting and daunting to be dipping my toes back into the world of word-craftery and literary-lies.

Maybe there will be more drawing. Adult-colouring-in seems to be the new meditation, and when I’ve found a few spare minutes recently I’ve been revisiting my old hobby of doodling. It’s a bizarrely good way of zoning out, of bypassing the present, and of doing something for the pure fun of it.

There’s a few book cover designs I have in mind, but I’m not going to say too much about that here as *REDACTED SECRETS RIGHT HERE MAN*

And that’s without getting into life admin. Perhaps it’s time for a house move, or a holiday, or health-kick. (*ahem* probably not a health-kick).

But, whatever the future holds, here’s to some long, hot months ahead. So in the words of RuPaul’s Snatch Game;

What’s your “Summer of [BLANK]”?
